A six-foot high Buddha statue believed to be carved of milky quartz has been unearthed at Kivul-landa at Kal-thota in Balangoda.
The statue was found when a private coconut land was dug for manuring yesterday evening.
Balangoda Divisional Secretary Champika Dharmapala told our news team that in addition to the Buddha statue, several stone pillars and a few ancient tiles have also been found from the same place.
Dharmapala said that the Archaeology Department has already been educated about the new artifacts.
The Divisional Secretary also said that police protection has been provided to the site as a lot of people are visiting the place.
