Trains delayed due to engine drivers' trade union action : Video
A delay in trains occurred today due to the work-to-rule action implemented by Railway Engine Drivers.
The Chief Controller of Railway Gunapala Withanage stated that the arrival of several office trains to Fort Railway Station was delayed this morning due to this action.
He further stated that even though engine drivers are involved in a work-to-rule campaign, trains will begin to run as per the scheduled time table.
The Railway Engine Drivers’ Association commenced the work-to-rule campaign yesterday due to faults in the railway signal system and train operations.
However, a special meeting was held today between representatives of the Railway Engine Drivers’ Association and Deputy Minister of Transport Rohana Dissanayake for discussions regarding issues faced by engine drivers.
Despite the two factions compromised to a certain extent, Railway Engine Drivers’ Association Secretary K.A.U. Konthasinghe stated that they have decided to continue the Work-to-rule action.
