Update :The illegal gambling spot near Colombo town hall raided for the 7 time; 34 arrested.
Last afternoon the police raided for the seventh time the well-known gambling spot run in a building belonging to Vajiraa Nettikumaara in the vicinity of the Colombo Town Hall.
Police media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that 34 suspects were arrested in the raid.
Out of them while 26 were suspects who had come to participate in the gambling and a woman suspect, the other seven were employees at the gambling spot.
222 suspects had been arrested at raids of this spot carried out at six previous occasions.
17 police officers of the Colombo organised CID who had carried out the raids had also been transferred with immediate effect.
Subsequently a case was filed at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s court against Vajiraa Nettikumaara, the owner of the building where the gambling centre was run.
That was on the charge of running a gambling centre without registration at the Inland Revenue Department.
While the relevant case is being heard at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court, the Slave Island police said that suspect Vajiraa Nettikumaara was still at large under two personal bails each costing Rs.100,000.

Gambling den in Town Hall raided again: 34 arrested
A notorious gambling den in the Town Hall area in Colombo was raided once again this afternoon by police.
Police Media Spokesperson S.S.P. Ajith Rohana stated that 34 persons were arrested during the raid carried out by officials of the Colombo Crimes Division and the Western Province Anti-Vice Squad.
A female gambler, 27 male gamblers and 7 employees of the illegal gambling den summed up the 34 arrests.
