The Train Control stated that all office trains were delayed by 15 to 20 minutes today as well due to the work-to-rule trade union action by engine drivers.
Meanwhile a group of passengers vent their anger over the train delay by attacking Maho Colombo train at Polgahawela at 6.35 this morning.
A group of persons pretending to be passengers have forced enter the engine driver’s cabin as the Maho Colombo train stopped at Polgahawela.
At the same time, a protest was held against the delay of the train and later the train was pelted with stones causing injuries to a hand of the engine driver.
The injured driver told our news team that the attackers carried him to the Station master’s room and forced him to sign in to a letter saying that he was not attacked.
As the engine driver was injured, the train was consequently driven to Colombo by a mechanical engineer.
Railway Engine Drivers’ Association stated that the rage of the passengers due to the delay of train at Polgahawela railway station is fair.
However, the association’s Chief Secretary K.E.U. Konthasinghe further stated that railway passengers should act within a legal framework under such circumstances.
