Train delay continues – another engine driver attacked Revise Train Time table, Engine Drivers’ Association demands.
According to the Railway Control Room, train operations were delayed even today due to the work to rule action of the Engine Drivers.
The Gaalu – kumari train bound to Colombo arrived 30 minutes late while Ruhunu Kumari train arrived 32 minutes late.
In addition, it was reported that several other trains also arrived at the Fort railway station late.
Meanwhile, a group of passengers have attacked an engine driver of the train heading from Colombo Fort to Chilaw at 8.20pm last night in Kurana railway station, since the arrival of the train was delayed by 1 hour.
The engine driver told our news team that one of the attackers was handed over to the police.
The train left to Chilaw and the engine driver was admitted to Chilaw Hospital at 1.30 am this morning.
The alleged engine driver who received minor injuries is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Meanwhile, Police media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana stated that police officers have been deployed to the relevant railway stations and certain trains following the attacks of Polgahawela and Chilaw engine drivers.
In addition, Railway General Manager has stated that the department will take legal actions regarding the attacks of the engine drivers.
He further stated that an investigation is currently underway regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, the engine drivers’ association stated that engine drivers are facing a problematic situation due to the train time table.
The association’s General Secretary K.E.U. Konthasinghe stated that they will demand the authorities to revise the train time table.
