The Sri Lanka medical association stated today that it would study the Appeal Court judgment over the pictorial warning on cigarette packets and go to Supreme Court for the wellbeing of the general public.
A member of the committee on smoking and alcohol Dr. Manoj Fernando said that the SLMA expect to consult legal experts in this connection soon.
The Appeal Court informed today to limit the space of pictorial warning on cigarette packets between 50% to 60%.
The Appeal Court passed the judgment after considering the case filed by Ceylon Tobacco Company against the Health Ministry Gazette notification.
Earlier, the Health Ministry Gazette wanted tobacco companies to cover 80% of their packets with pictorial warnings.
The Gazette on pictorial warning was approved unanimously in parliament in 2012.
