A scholarship fund from Navagaththegama teacher who was forced to kneel down.
Former Navagattegama Navodyaa Vidyaalaya teacher in charge of discipline Susilaa Herath says that she would use the money received as compensation to create a fund to grant scholarships to poor students.
The Attorney General had filed action against former North Western Provincial Councillor Ananda Sarath Kumara over harassing the teacher concerned, by forcing her to kneel down in the school premises on 14th June, 2013.
When the case was taken up for hearing yesterday, the Puttalam High Court sentenced former North Western Provincial Councillor Ananda Sarath Kumara to two years of rigorous imprisonment over the charge of forcing the teacher to kneel down.
High Court Judge Priyantha Fernando ordered that this sentence be suspended for seven years.
Similarly High Court Judge Priyantha Fernando also ordered that a 300,000 rupee compensation be paid to petitioner teacher Susilaa Herath.
