Two unidentified gunmen shot dead Peliyagoda Urban Councilor Chamila Sandaruwan while he was returning home after appearing for a case against him in Kadawatha Magistrate Court yesterday morning.
Police said CCTV cameras installed at private houses in the surrounding area were checked for possible video clips of the gunmen but none of them had recorded any clues.
Chamila Sandaruwan’s friend who got injured in the shooting is still receiving treatment in Colombo National Hospital.
Chamila Sandaruwan’s father told our news team yesterday there was a political motive behind his son’s death.
However police said they received information that the Urban Councilor was involved in a drug racket, and his murder believed to be connected to that drug peddling.
