14 train turns suddenly cancelled
The Railway Control Room stated that 14 train turns have been cancelled today due to Engine Drivers, Guards and a group of Railway Assistants reporting sick today.
Several train turns were cancelled yesterday when the commemoration of the Vesak Poya day was in progress.
The Railway General Manager issued a special announcement today, requesting the alleged workers to report for duty.
However, Railway Deputy Transport Superintendent Gamini Seneviratne told our news team that the train service has returned to normal from this evening.
The Railway Engine Drivers were recently engaged in a Work-to-rule action causing a great inconvenience to railway passengers.
However, the trade union action came to an end following a meeting held with the Transport Minister Kumara Welgama.
