President Mahinda Rajapakse states that it is the responsibility of all political parties that value democracy to participate in the parliamentary select committee appointed to solve the national issue.

The President expressed these views at the 5th Victory day celebrations that were held this morning in Matara.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa was welcomed by Prime Minister D M Jayarathna, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Three Armed Forces Chiefs.

The national flag was hoisted by the President and the National anthem was sung followed by a moment of silence for the fallen heroes.

21 gun salutes were also accorded, upon which the President addressed the nation.

President reiterated the importance of the Parliamentary select committee appointed to solve the national issue.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated that all challenges against the country will be faced fearlessly and correctly.

The President expressed these views at the 5th Victory day celebrations that were held this morning in Matara.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa was welcomed by Prime Minister D M Jayarathna, Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Three Armed Forces Chiefs.

The national flag was hoisted by the President and the National anthem was sung followed by a moment of silence for the fallen heroes.

21 gun salutes were also accorded, upon which the President addressed the event.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa also stated that irrespective of who opposes, the victory day celebrations must be held.

Hundreds of Military personnel took part in the victory day celebrations along with 116 Army vehicles, 40 Naval Vessels and 35 Aircraft.
