The transport Ministry has decided to make several new appointments at the Sri Lanka Railway Department.
Reports say that this decision has been taken after a discussion held between the Transport Minister and Ministry Authorities with regard to problems recently encountered in the Department.
Department sources said that accordingly current Deputy Railway Transport superintendent Gamini Seneviratne would be removed from that position and appointed to the Deputy Commercial Director post.
B. S. Polwatta will be appointed as Deputy Transport Director.
Railway Department sources said that Railway Routing Engineer T. L. Wikremaratne too was due to be removed from that post.
Ratmalana Worksite Deputy Chief Technical Engineer Nilantha Fernando is scheduled to be appointed to the Railway Routing Engineer post.
Meanwhile the two commuters arrested in connection with attacking a train driver at the Alawwa Railway Station was released yesterday on personal and financial bails.
The police said that they were released on a 5000 rupee personal bail and a 100,000 rupee financial bail each.
Railway Transport Director L. A. R. Ratnayake told our news team that in the future he was prepared to obtain police assistance for the security of train drivers, should the need arise.
