14 schools in Rathnapura closed due to dengue.-Video

The Sabaragamuwa Provincial Education Ministry today decided to close government schools within the urban council limit tomorrow and the day after due to dengue that is fast spreading in the area.

30 students and the principal of St. Aloysius College in Ratnapura were hospitalized recently for dengue and 12 of the students are still receiving treatment at the Ratnapura hospital.

In addition, another 100 patients are receiving treatment at the Ratnapura hospital.

Deputy Principal of St. Aloysius College Venerable Galgamuwe Rathnaloka Thera told our news team that the main cause for dengue is the polluted surroundings of school premises.

Sabaragamuwa Provincial Education Ministry Secretary Mahinda Weerasuriya said that it was decided to close the schools within the Rathnapura Urban Council limit after taking the situation in to consideration.
