The Railways Department has decided to suspend leave of electric power-set train drivers.
In a release, the Department stated that those who have abstained from work should report to work immediately and those who do not need to produce a government medical certificate.
However, a spokesperson at the department stated that the office trains will function as usual today.
A strike was commenced by Train Drivers by abstaining from reporting to work opposing the Transport Ministry’s failure to take action against the incident in which a train driver had been assaulted in Alawwa.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Train Drivers Association T J WIjerathna stated that they have requested for a discussion with Transport Minister Kumara Welgama today.
