The Railway Engine Drivers Association stated that a group of passengers attempted to assault an engine driver on the Kelaniweli line at the Narahenpita Railway Station this morning.

Railway Engine Drivers Association President T.J. Wijerathna told our news team that safety of engine drivers is at risk as passenger assault incidents are reported daily.

He also said that his Association was scheduled to meet Transport Minister Kumar Welgama to discuss over this impending situation.

However the Train Control room stated that normal train services are operating as usual despite the Narahenpita incident.

Power-set Engine Drivers resorted to trade union action yesterday in protest of the failure of railway authorities to draw their attention to the safety of engine drivers.
