President Mahinda Rajapaksa who attended the fourth Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia held in China returned to the island last evening.
Participants from nearly 40 countries and international organizations attended the summit.
During the visit President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Chinese President Xi Jinping held bilateral talks in Shanghai and discussed the progress of ongoing collaborative projects as well as new areas of cooperation.
Noting that Sri Lanka is an important partner, President Xi said he was happy to see the relations between the two countries be elevated to one of "strategic cooperation" during the President's last visit to China in May 2013.
President also held discussions with UN Secretary General and Iranian President Hasan Rauhani during the summit.
