Northern Provincial Council Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran said today that he was unable to accept the External Affairs Ministry invitation to join the delegation to be led by the President to the swearing-in ceremony of India’s new Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a letter to External Affairs Minister G.L. Peries, NPC Chief Minister Wigneswaran thanked the Minister for his initiation and said he had a lengthy discussion over the matter with his ministers.
The Chief Minister further stated that if he accepts the invitation, such an act would prove that there is a strong relationship between the government and the Northern Provincial Council; therefore he rejected the invitation.
The swearing-In ceremony of the Indian Prime Minister will be held in New Delhi next Monday, and President Mahinda Rajapaksa confirmed his participation in the event today.
Accordingly, the External Affairs Ministry invited the Northern Provincial Council Chief Minister this morning to join the delegation.
When our news team contacted TNA parliament group leader R. Sampandan said that he does not want to intervene in the Northern Provincial Chief Minister’s decision.
