Gazette issued making it mandatory to teach Mother Tongue, Religion and History at International schools

A gazette notification has been issued including the orders made by the Ministry of Education making it mandatory to teach the Mother Tongue, Religion and Local History to Sri Lankan students in grades 1 to 8 in International and Private schools.

The Education Ministry stipulates that this shall be in effect from the new term from the beginning of next year.

The gazette notification also says that in case History is already been thought, a substantial amount of information pertaining to local history needs to be added.
