Vital information of Elpitiya murder comes to light - Suspect produced before court
The soldier arrested in connection with the murder of a student of the Institute of Aesthetic Studies Dimasha Gayanthi has been produced before Elpitiya Magistrate Court.
Elpitiya police stated that the suspect is scheduled to be remanded till the 9th of this month.
Police brought down the suspect from his service camp in Tantirimale to Colombo yesterday for further investigations.
The suspect was taken to the Pettah shop from which he had bought the knife for one hundred rupees.
The suspect had bought the knife on his way home for holiday and told the shop owner that he wanted it to cut king coconut.
A statement from the shop owner who sold the knife to the suspect has also been made by the police.
Earlier when the suspect made a call to the victim, she told that she had not been available at the hostel at Delkanda.
Later the suspect had called several hostel friends of the victim to verify her remarks.
The suspect, on his way home from his camp, received a call from an unidentified man who had told the suspect that Dimasha was with him and asked the suspect not to harm her.
Police have also made statements from three university students who were staying with the victim in the hostel.
