Allied Health Sciences exam commences without students-Video
The Government Nursing Officers Association and the Federation of Paramedics Services staged a protest against reducing the duration of Allied Health Science Degree from four to three years.
The protesters marched towards Fort Railway Station from Colombo National Hospital premises via Deans Road, Maradana and Technical Junction today.
Heavy traffic jams were reported in these areas due to the protest march.
Several trade unions representing the private sector and the government sector participated in the march while members of the Inter University Student Federation also took part in the march today.
Speaking during the protest staged in front of Fort Railway Station, the Government Nursing Officers Association President Saman Rathnapriya demanded the government and the ministers to stop the curtailment of education and extend the course up to four years.
Meanwhile Peradeniya University Vice Chancellor Professor Athula Senarathna stated that the examination commenced today for the Allied Health Science students.
He further stated that the distribution of revision papers was due today. However, no students were present to obtain the papers.
