Health Minister insists on 80 percent.-Video

Health Minister Maitripala Sirisena says that it is necessary to strive further for having the pictorial warning on the cigarette packet increased up to 80 per cent.

Participating in Colombo at the ceremony for the commemoration of the World Anti-cigarette Day that falls on May 31st , the Minister said that he was prepared to face any challenge in this endeavour.

The Appeal Court informed on the 12th of this month that displaying pictorial warnings on 80 per cent  of a cigarette packet be reduced to 50 to 60 per cent.

That was when revealing the verdict on the petition the Ceylon Tobacco Company had filed  against the gazette notification the Health Ministry had issued.

The Health Ministry had instructed that warnings be displayed on 80 per cent of  the cigarette packet.
