Several low line areas underwater due to heavy rain; Several roads in many areas also submerged.;Heavy rains island wide today as well.-weather
The Disaster Management Centre says that several low lying areas have been inundated as a result of the heavy rainfall in many areas in the island.
The Kalutara district was the district most affected by the rainfall during the last 24 hours.
Accordingly low-lying areas in the Agalawatta, Waeli-paenna, Matugama, Paalinda Nuwara and Omatta Divisions have been inundated.
Meanwhile reports say that as a result of the spillover of the Bentara river and the Ging river, several low-lying surrounding areas have been submerged.
The Disaster Management Centre says that many low-lying areas in Akuressa, Hiniduma, Neluwa, Kadi-hingala, Udugama and Nagoda have come under water.
In addition the Udugama – Baddegama, Udugama – Akuressa and Udugama – Palawatta roads connected to these areas have been submerged.
In addition our correspondent in the area says that by now the Elpitiya Road via Pitigala – Maetiviliya, the Pitigala – Pitigala North, Pitigala – Paelawatta roads have been inundated.
The meteorology department states that Due to the convergence of wind flow showery weather will occur in the western ,Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara district.
Heavy rainfall more than 100 mili meters can be expected at some places
Thundershowers will develop at several places in the Uva , North central and Eastern provinces during the afternoon or evening.
Fairly strong winds can be expected along the western slopes of the Central hills at times.
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
Duty Meteorologist Jeewan Karunarathna requested the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
