13 persons were killed in earth slips and other rain related accidents due to heavy showers.

Severn persons died in two earth slips caused at Agalawatta area in Matugama in Kalutara early this morning.

The Disaster Management Center stated that another five persons were killed after an earth mount fell on two houses at Kitulegoda area in Agalawatta.

Matugama police said that among the dead were several women and children.

Meanwhile two more persons were killed in another earth slip at Omaththa in Agalawatta.

Kalutara District Secretary U.D.C. Jayalal told our news team that four persons died in several other earth slips reported from Matugama, Welipenna, Kalutara, Bulathsinhala and Mahagama areas.

Meanwhile another two persons died after a parapet wall fell on a house in North Talangama in Malabe this morning.

The Disaster Management Centre stated that the Colombo and the Gampaha districts are vulnerable to disasters due to heavy rain.

Meanwhile Army Media Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya told our news team that 10 lifeguard teams and two helicopters have been deployed for rescue operations.

Kalutara District Secretary U.D.C. Jayalal told our news team that relief services have already been started as Kalutara is the most affected district.

Meanwhile Ceylon Electricity Board stated that steps were taken to disconnect electricity supply in the rain affected areas of the Kalutara district including Matugama, Agalawatta, Lewwanduwa, Welipenna, Walallawita, Bulathsinhala and Kukule Ganga.

Another 4 persons have died due to a land slide that occurred in Kaluthara – Bulathsinhala – Maha-gama area this morning.

Due to incessant showers 7 persons were killed as a result of 2 landslides that occurred in Kaluthara- Mathugama - Agalawatta area last night.

5 persons killed in a landslide caused by heavy rains in Kaluthara – Agalawatha.

The Matugama police says that five persons were killed as a result of the landslide that occurred in Kitulgoda in Agalawatta last night.

A senior spokesman of Matugama police told our news team that there were three women among those killed.

Reports say that this accident had taken place as a result of a fall of an earth slip on several houses.
