High level of Lead detected in schools and Pre-schools
Following a research conducted by the Centre for Environmental Justice, it has been revealed that a high level of lead has been detected in dust particles in the school and preschool environments.
The research funded by the European Union selected schools and preschools with brightly painted classroom walls, floors, wooden furniture and play tools.
Following the research, the Centre further stated that many schools and preschools showed a higher percentage of lead compared to the minimum recommended levels.
The Executive Director of the Centre Hemantha Vithanage stated that the level of intelligence and learning capabilities of children can be greatly affected by lead exposure, even at minimal levels.
