Heavy rains in several areas in the island - Flood continues in low lying areas of several rivers.
The MET Department stated that there will be showers or thundershowers at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Thundershowers will develop at several places in the Uva and Eastern provinces during the afternoon or evening.
Fairly strong winds can be expected along the western slopes of the Central hills at times. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.
The Irrigation Department says that people living in low-lying areas close to the Kalu, Kelani, Ging, Nilwalaa and Attanagalu rivers should still be vigilant.
Irrigation Department Hydrology Division Directress Premaa Hettiaarachchi said that floods had been reported in low-lying areas of rivers.
Several roads in the Galle, Kalutara, Ratnapura and Matara districts were inundated due to floods caused by heavy rains.
The Disaster Management Centre said that several areas including the Malwaana town in Gampaha were inundated yesterday due to the overflow of the Kelani river.
As a result of this, the Colombo –Malwaana main road was completely submerged at Yaboroluwa.
