Finding a solution to kidney disease is a national requirement; President-Video
President Mahinda Rajapaksa said finding a solution to fast spreading kidney disease should be considered a national requirement and so everyone should render their cooperation towards it.
He said a fusion of Indigenous and Western medical systems could find a lasting cure for the disease.
The President expressed his views during the Presidential Task Force meeting on Kidney disease held at Temple Trees today.
During the meeting t was stated that although the exact cause of the disease has not yet been discovered; it has been fast spreading from Anuradhapura to other districts such as Kurunegala, Moneragala and Hambantota.
The GMOA pointed out that the number of patients doubles following a lapse of four years.
Meanwhile the President has directed authorities to take legal action against rogue businessmen who release unhygienic consumer goods to the market.
He said such businessmen and their enterprises should be black listed, and the Health Ministry and the Consumer Affairs Authority should work hand in hand to find a systematic program to prevent such trading.
The President expressed these views after the Consumer Affairs Authority revealed yesterday of a racket by a cosmetics dealer who had released expired stocks of beauty care products, drugs and perfume after renewing their expiry dates.
