Disaster situation subsides - showers expected today; says Met Department

The Disaster Management Centre says that the disaster situation which affected several parts of the island is now gradually subsiding.

Deputy Media Director Sarath Lal Kumara stated that however those whose houses were completely destroyed still remain in temporary camps.

Meanwhile, the MET Department stated that there will be showers or thundershowers at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Southwest monsoonal winds will be strengthening at times over the island and especially along the western slopes of central hills.
