SL request for a date for discussions with India.
Twelve Sri Lankan fishermen were arrested by the Indian Coast Guard for allegedly crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line and fishing in Indian waters.
Coast Guard ship ICGS Abheek spotted two Sri Lankan boats some 120 nautical miles east of Chennai and arrested the 12 fishermen yesterday.
The boats, which had 750 kg of fish catch, were seized and the fishermen were handed over to Tamil Nadu Police.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Fisheries Sarath Kumara Gunarathna stated that they expect India to announce a date for the next round of discussions.
Meanwhile, TNA MP M A Sumandiran participating in the Article 14 segment of Gold FM NEWS stated that the TNA is ready to assist the government to solve the Indo – Sri lanka fisheries issue.
