The Foreign Employment Bureau requests the public to complain to the nearest police station if anyone has fallen victim to a massive money scam conducted in the guise of Foreign Employment Bureau website.
Police said that investigations revealed nearly 20 million rupees have been cheated from over 40 job seekers who wrote the Korean Language Efficiency examination seeking employment in Korea.
A job seeker had complained to the Foreign Employment Bureau about this fake web site recently.
Later the bureau jointly with the CID initiated investigations and arrested the person who developed the fake website, the scam operator and his wife.
The racketeer has posed as a co-coordinating secretary of subject Minister Dilan Perera to lure the victims to the scam.
The suspects have collected money from unsuspected job seekers promising them to enter their names to the waiting list of the Korean Job Website maintained by the Foreign Employment Bureau.
Police have gathered information that a large number of similar victims could have fallen prey to this scam.
In addition, another woman who was involved in this scam believed to have fled to Italy taking one million rupees.
