The Western Provincial Education Department has initiated an investigation regarding the incident where a female student committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train at Batuwatta Ragama.

The victim was identified as 15-year-old Sevmini Ayesha studying at Year-10 of St. Maria College at Hapugoda Ragama.

Victim’s uncle Gamini Alwis told our news team that a female teacher of the same school had pressurized the victim to retrieve a chip that contained nude photographs from one of her fellow students.

The relatives of the victim as well as residents of Hapugoda staged a protest in front of St.Maria College demanding the authorities to interdict the particular teacher and produce her before a court.

However Negombo Circuit Division Education Director Anthony Fernando stated that the two teachers charged for the case have been transferred temporarily to Ja-Ela Education Circuit.
