A group of University Dons in an attempt to destabilise Universities; charges UGC.-Video
The University Grants Commission charges that a few university teachers have got together to destabilize the university system.
However the Federation of University Teachers Association stated several members of the association have received death threats from certain elements.
The Federation of University Teachers Association with several civil organizations convened a joint media briefing in Colombo today.
Addressing the media President of the Federation of University Teachers Association Dr. Chandragupta Thenuwara said the freedom of expression has been deprived.
However University Grants Commission Chairperson Professor Kshanika Hirimburegama told a media briefing held at his office today a few university teachers have been creating issues in universities.
Meanwhile a protest march was held in Colombo with the participation of the members of Inter University Students Federation, civil organizations, trade unions and several political parties.
The Inter University Students Federation stated the aim of the march was to draw the government’s attention to the current crisis in the education sector and other crisis in the working class.
The protest march which began from the Colombo University’s Institute of Aesthetic Studies and paraded upto the Hyde Park via Colombo Town Hall.
