Sri Lanka reiterating its vehement rejection of the United Nations Human Rights Council Resolution 25/1 adopted in March, said it will not cooperate with the OHCHR-driven so called "comprehensive investigation" emanating from it.

Sri Lanka has observed that the Government is firmly committed to continuing its ongoing processes of reconciliation, nation building and accountability, and towards this end, will continue to work with countries and inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations that are genuinely interested in the welfare of the Sri Lankan people.

Sri Lanka's position on the "comprehensive investigation" was outlined by Sri Lanka's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva and Leader of the Sri Lanka delegation Ravinatha Aryasinha on the opening day of the 26th Session of the Human Rights Council that opened in Geneva yesterday.

UN Human Rights Commissioner Navaneedan Pillai requested the government to assist an international investigation into the alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka.

However the SLFP Central Committee too decided day-before-yesterday to consult parliament’s view about allowing Human Rights Commissioner’s Investigation’s Committee members to come to the island.

Our news team inquired about this from the main political parties.

However UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella said that the Government was trying to gain political advantages through this problem as well.

Alliance Government coalition partner JHU media spokesman Nishaantha Sri Warnasinghe said that the JHU would oppose representatives coming to the country for an international probe.
