A proposal has been submitted to parliament to check whether the government allows the UN Human Rights Commissioner’s special team to enter the country to investigate the alleged violations of human rights.
Parliament Secretary General Dhammika Dasanayake said he received the proposal letter signed by nine ruling party MPs this morning.
He told our news team that he will take swift action to enter the proposal to the parliament agenda.
The parliament Secretary General also said that a final decision with regard to the proposal will be taken during the party leaders’ meeting next Friday.
However our news team contacted chief organizer of the Opposition John Amaratunga to comment on the matter.
MP John Amaratunga said that before holding a parliament debate over the matter, the government should announce its stand on the issue.
