Investigations have revealed the two suspects of Tamil origin who were arrested in connection with transporting 85 kilograms of heroin on Biyagama Kelaniya road this morning are brothers.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that the raid was launched on a tip-off provided by an informant to the STF.
The STF arrested the suspects along with the cache of heroin being transported by a Hybrid vehicle near the Peliyagoda 4th Mile Post on the Colombo Biyagama road.
Over 40 STF personnel participated in the operation, and initial investigations revealed that the value of this cache of heroin has been estimated 683 million 165 thousand rupees.
This is believed to be the largest hoard of narcotics seized while transporting within the country.
SSP Ajith Rohana also said that police has decided to offer a handsome cash prize to the informant who gave the tip to the police about this massive drug racket.
