President Mahinda Rajapaksa arrived at the Santa Cruise Airport in Bolivia yesterday to participate in the 50th Heads of State meeting of the Group of 77 known as G 77.
Chairman of the Bolivia Senate Eugenio Rohas Apasa welcomed the President following a military guard of honour.
President Rajapaksa is the first Sri Lankan Head of State to visit the South American country.
The Group of 77, popularly known as G77, is a coalition of developing nations designed to promote its members’ collective economic interests.
President Rajapaksa will address the Summit tomorrow and is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with several State leaders from other countries attending the summit.
The Sri Lankan President is also scheduled to receive an award from the Bolivian President Evo Morales for peace and democracy.
This is believed to be in recognition of the service rendered towards the strengthening of institutions representing peace and democracy.
