India has said that they will not take the Indo-Sri Lanka fishermen’s issue lightly.
Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Seetharaman said that the current Indian government will play a constructive role and that it is engaging with Sri Lanka on the need to find a permanent solution to the fishermen’s problem.
She said External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was of the firm view that this could not be allowed to become a festering issue.
Meanwhile, Indian Coast Guard tomorrow will repatriate 39 Sri Lankan fishermen, who were detained for illegally entering India's territorial waters.
The other 2 will be detained further in Tamil Nadu for questioning.
