President Mahinda Rajapaksa says nobody will be allowed to take law into their hands.
In a twitter message, the President stated that all parties involved in the Aluthgama incident should act with patience and responsibility.
Twitter also stated that an investigation will be held so that law could take its course of action to bring the culprits to book.
The Government Information Department meanwhile stated that the tense situation in Aluthgama and Beruwala is now under control.
In order to prevent similar problematic situations Prime Minister D.M. Jayarathna chaired a special meeting at the Kalutara District Secretariat this morning.
It was decided to deploy army in trouble prone areas and security personnel at entrances of several roads leading to these areas.
Another decision taken during the meeting was to request Buddhist monks and Muslim moulavies to use loudspeakers to calm the public.
The meeting also decided to investigate small extremist groups and take legal action against them.
Meanwhile Governor of the Western Province Alavi Moulana, Ministers Basil Rajapaksa, Maithreepala Sirisena, Rohitha Abeygunawardana, Kumara Welgama, S.B. Dissanayake and IGP N.K. Ilangakoon participated in the meeting held at the Kalutara District Secretariat.
Following the meeting the Prime Minister’s Office stated that the Premier joined an inspection tour in Aluthgama, Beruwala, Welipitiya, and Darga town and met residents.
Meanwhile SLMC Leader Minister Rauff Hakeem, a group of UNP parliamentarians led by UNP Leadership Council Chairman Karu Jayasuriya and Kabeer Hashim also participated in an inspection tour in the affected areas in Beruwala and Aluthgama this morning.
Public Relations Minister Mervin Silva also toured the area this afternoon.
Update : Monday, 16 June 2014 - 07:00 PM -------------------------------------- Curfew continues further in Aluthgama and Beruwala. PM presides a special meeting in Kaluthara.
Police stated that the tense situation erupted in Aluthgama is under control.
However, Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that curfew will further continue in Beruwala and Aluthgama police divisions.
He also said in addition to police deployment, STF has also been summoned in order to beef up security in the area.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratna is presiding a special meeting at Kalutara District Secretariat at this moment with regard to the tension erupted in the area yesterday.
Our correspondent said that Western Provincial Governor Alavi Moulana, Minister Basil Rajapaksa, IGP N.K. Ilangakoon and top police officers in the area are participating in the discussion.
Meanwhile UNP also issued a notice today with regard to the tense situation in Beruwala.
The notice stated that Leadership Council Chairman Karu Jayasuriya and Party General Secretary Tissa Attanayake are scheduled to make an inspection tour in Beruwala and Aluthgama.
At the same time, UNP stated that Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is scheduled to make a special statement in parliament tomorrow with regard to the situation in Aluthgama

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has issued a special communique with regard to the situation that has cropped up in Aluthgama and Beruwala.
The communiqué says further that no one could act taking the law into his hands.
Meanwhile police media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana says that the police curfew imposed on Aluthgama and Beruwala last night would be effective today as well.
