Negombo Fishermen in a strike over fuel concession

Negombo Fishermen who are engaged in a Sathyagraha warn that they will switch their current campaign to a fast unto death campaign by 7am tomorrow unless their demand for concessionary fuel is met by tonight.

Members of 22 fishermen associations held a protest march against the government decision to stop fuel concession.

They demanded fuel at a concessionary price instead.

Later the protestors put up makeshift huts in the Negombo Urban Council grounds and started a continuous Sathyagraha.

Meanwhile fishermen from Negombo to Kalpitiya staged a demonstration to show solidarity towards their counterparts in Negombo.

Our correspondent stated that around 800 boats were docked in the fishing harbor as they were not ventured into sea for fishing.
