The Government established a Buddhist Advisory Council for advising the Government with regard to the way the Government should act in matters related to the Buddhism.

This decision was taken taking into consideration the views frequently expressed by the Chief Incumbents of all Nikaayas.

The setting up of the Buddhist Advisory Council took place under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees last afternoon.

The Advisory Council consists of a team of representatives including prelates nominated by the Chief Incumbents of Nikaayas.

Participating in the occasion President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that the need of a Buddhist Advisory Council had existed severely.
