International intervention will be opposed irrespective of party differences: UNP
The United National Party says that international intervention will be opposed irrespective of party differences and such a threat could be avoided only by safeguarding democracy, human rights and law and order.
Chief Opposition Whip John Amarathunga meanwhile stated that they abstained from voting on the proposal brought by the government against an international inquiry by the UNHRC, as the government had not responded to the amendments proposed by them.
However, the Minister of Public Administration and Home Affairs W D J Seneviratne stated that the Oppositions amendments were not included as they were not relevant to the Proposal submitted to parliament.
