Fishermen of Chilaw are marching to Negambo in support of fast un to death campaign.
The fast-unto-death campaign launched by Negombo fishermen yesterday in front of Negombo Town Hall ground continues for its second day today.
The protesters claimed that the fuel concession granted to them by the government has been stopped for the last ten months.
600 wives of protesting fishermen are currently staging a protest at Telwatta junction on the Colombo Negombo road to show solidarity towards their husbands’ fast-unto-death campaign.
Meanwhile Fishermen of Chilaw also started a protest march from Periya-mulla junction and arrived at the Telwatta junction to join the fishermen’s wives’ protest.
Members of 21 fishermen’s associations held a protest march last Monday before they started a Sathyagraha in the Negombo Town Hall ground.
They switched the Sathyagraha into a fast-unto-death campaign yesterday as the authorities did not intervene to find a solution.
Meanwhile Archbishop of Colombo His eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith who visited the protestors requested the President to grant the fuel concession to these fishermen.
