President discloses about political betrayers at Bogambara.-Video
President Mahinda Rajapaksa said while ordinary people maintain communal harmony certain politicians lack it and such situation has pushed the entire motherland in jeopardy today.
Addressing the official ceremony to hand over the Bogambara Prison for a government development drive, President Rajapaksa said certain politicians are ready to betray the country for petty political gains.
Rehabilitation and Prison Minister Chandrasiri Gajadheera handed over the relevant documents to the President during the event.
Stating nothing is impossible for a country to achieve through national harmony, President Rajapaksa stressed that all citizens should unite to edifice the country irrespective of all differences.
A section of Bogambara Wewa was filled to build the Prison in 1876 with facilities sufficient for only 408 prisoners.
Sri Lanka’s only gallows to hang three convicts was also established in this Prison and it was later replaced with a new prison built in Pallekele in order to separate the prison from historical and sacred cities.
