President Mahinda Rajapaksa ceremonially declared open the oil storage facilities established at the Magampura Mahinda Rajapaksa Port in Hambantota and the Mattala International Airport today.

Oil Storage Terminal, set up according to International standards, at the Mattala International Airport will supply fuel to aircraft arriving at the airport while the oil tank farm at the Hambantota Port will supply fuel for ships arriving at the Harbor.

The fully computerized Oil Storage Terminal at the airport constructed at a cost of 40 million dollars has the capacity to store 3 million liters of aircraft fuel, according to the Managing Director of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Susantha Silva.

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority said following the opening of the oil tank farm at the Hambantota Port, fuel bunkering operations will commence at the newly built fuel bunkering terminal.

The oil tank farm, comprising 14 tanks, was constructed at the Hambantota Port with an investment of 76 million dollars.
