A group of fishermen of Devi Nuwara staged a protest in front of Devi Nuwara Devalaya on the Matara Kataragama main road this morning.

The protesters demanded the authorities to provide them fuel at a concessionary price.

All Ceylon Public Fishermen Federation National Convener Rathna Gamage expressed his views during the protest.

Earlier Negombo and Kalpitiya fishermen also staged various protests demanding fuel concession and even staged a fast-unto-death campaign in front of the Negombo Urban Council.

Having visited the protesters, Colombo Arch Bishop His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith requested the President to provide the fuel concession to all fishermen.

Later protesters called off the fast-unto-death campaign.
