Update : A youth who attacked a police officer in Divulapitiya with a knife succumbs to police shooting-Video
A youth who last afternoon stabbed with a knife a police officer serving at the Gampaha-Divulapitiya police station succumbed to injuries caused by police shooting.
Police media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana said that 20-year old youth resident in Divulapitiya – Baravavila, Kaelum Subasinghe had thus been killed.
The youth who had returned from a wedding had caused a knife injury on a person resident in his village and come to the Baravavila junction.
The police media spokesman said that the suspect had stabbed a police officer when police officers engaged in traffic control duty there had tried to arrest him.
On this occasion while the other police officer had shot at the youth the youth had succumbed to the shooting injury.
Subsequently the police officer injured in the incident, the person stabbed with a knife and the youth concerned were admitted to the Divulapitiya hospital.
The police officer, who was in serious condition there, was later transferred to the Gampaha hospital for further treatment.

Policeman stabbed in Divulapitiya, police fire, in retaliation
A person has stabbed a policeman attached to the Divulapitiya police while the latter was on duty near Divulapitiya town this afternoon.
Divulapitiya police stated that another policeman on duty nearby had shot at the suspect in retaliation.
Both the suspect and the policeman who received injuries following the incident were later hospitalized.
A Divulapitiya Police spokesman told our news team that the injured policeman was later transferred to the Colombo National Hospital for further treatment.
