Chief Prelates write to President asking to stop Night Races in Kandy.-Video
The Chief Prelates of the 3 Chapters have requested the President to stop the Night Races to be held in Kandy.
Expressing their concern in a letter addressed to the President, Chief Prelates have stated that such events are not suitable to be held in the city of Kandy.
The letter which was submitted to the President has been signed by
the Anu-Nayaka of the Malwathu Chapter of Shyaa-mo-paali Maha Nikaaya Venerable Niyangoda Wijithasiri Thera and the same Nikaya’s Asgiri Chapter Chief Prelate Venerable Udugama Sri Buddha-rakkitha Thera as well as Sri Lanka Amarapura Bhikku Council Most Venerable Naapaane Pemasiri Thera.
According to the letter, the sacred Tooth Relics venerated by Buddhists worldwide are enshrined in the city of Kandy.
The letter further states that Kandy is recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site and is home to the Malwatu and Asgiri chapters as well as the 4 main Devala.
The Chief Prelates further mentioned that they have been informed that certain people are attempting to organize a night race in Kandy on the 27th and 28th of this month.
The letter emphasize that such races will tarnish the reputation and the sacredness of the city.
Therefore, the Chief Prelates are requesting the President to stop this event from being held in Kandy.
