Health Minister Maithreepala Sirisena says that the gazette regarding pictorial warnings on cigarette packets has not been activated as the Association of Tobacco agents have filed a case against it at the Supreme Court two weeks ago.

Even though a gazette was released ordering that 80% of a packet of cigarettes should be covered in pictorial warnings, tobacco companies filed a petition at the Supreme Court against it.

On the 12th of May releasing its verdict the Appeal Court stated that only 50 to 60% of a packet of cigarettes should contain pictorial warnings.
