Fishermen protest at 2 locations: traffic disrupted.
A group of fishermen staged a protest in front of Devundera Devalaya this morning demanding the fuel concession.
Traffic on the Matara Kataragama road was blocked due to the fishermen’s protest.
All Ceylon Public Fishermen Association’s National Organizer Ratna Gamage who participated in the protest said the fuel concession should be given to fishermen.
Earlier, fishermen in Negombo and Kalpitiya areas staged in various protests and some Negombo fishermen even staged a fast-unto death campaign in front of the Negombo Urban Council recently.
When our news team contacted Fisheries Department Director General Nimal Hetti Arachchi to comment on protests over fuel concession, he said his department has planned another concessionary scheme to replace the fuel concession.
Meanwhile protests by fishermen were held at Galle and Dodanduwa areas demanding the refurbishment of Dodanduwa Fishing harbor.
During the protest, Fishermen charged the Fisheries Minister.
