Rajarata University Teachers to refrain from work from tomorrow; Stage atop which students staged sathyagraha set alight-Video
The Teachers Union of the Rajarata University stated that they will refrain from academic and administrative activities from tomorrow.
Secretary of the Union Venerable Ulgangwatte Chandrasiri Thera stated that this decision was taken due to the threat posed to their lives due to the prevailing situation within the Mihinthale premises of the University.
Teachers including the Vice Chancellor were even held hostage by a group of students recently.
Nearly one thousand Rajarata University students locked a group of teachers including their vice chancellor last Thursday at 3pm forcing them to remove the class suspension that the university authorities imposed on 28 students six months ago.
Meanwhile, a certain group has set fire to the stage in front of the University, a top which students were engaged in a sathyagraha.
Chairman of the Students Union of the Rajarata University Dinesh Kumara stated that the stage had been set fire at around 2 this morning.
This is the second time the stage has been set on fire.
Chairman of the Students Union alleges that the Vice Chancellor should be responsible for the threat faced by them.
However, the Vice Chancellor said the students itself had done it to gain publicity.
