Rajarata university dons discuss future actions tomorrow.

Rajarata University teachers Association will meet tomorrow to discuss future measures on the current trade union action by the association.

Association Secretary Senior Lecturer Venerable Ulagan Watte Chandrasiri Thera said the meeting will be held at the Agriculture Faculty at Puliyankulama in Anuradhapura.

However University Students Federation requested teachers to stop their trade union action and to assist in the creation of a peaceful environment within the university.

Rajarata University Students Federation President Dinesh Kumara made this appeal during a media briefing held in Colombo today.

Our news team contacted Rajarata University Teachers Association Secretary Senior Lecturer Venerable Ulagan Watte Chandrasiri Thera to comment on the matter.

The Thera said the matter will be discussed in detail during the meeting tomorrow.

Rajarata University students held the Vice Chancellor and a group of teachers inside the main administrative building for several hours last Thursday demanding the removal of the class suspension on a group of students.

Rajarata University Teachers Association Secretary Senior Lecturer Venerable Ulagan Watte Chandrasiri Thera said the lives of teachers were at risk therefore teachers would refrain from teaching until a conducive environment is created for teachers to engage freely in academic activities.

Academic and administrative activities of the university were crippled today due the teacher’s trade union action.

Although the University which closed last Friday after the incident was reopened this morning students did not attend lectures as teachers had not reported for duty.
