Nurses attached to the Ragama Teaching Hospital who launched a strike today later agreed to continue only emergency treatment.

Hospital director Dr. Mahinda Samaranayake told our news team that the health services director general and Ragama hospital nurses union representatives reached this agreement during a discussion held this morning.

The nursing officers of Ragama hospital decided to restrain from duty this morning following an altercation between a group of nurses and hospital junior staff.

Meanwhile 11 midwives have been locked in the labor room from the 26th of June as they were unable to sign off from duty since they were denied access to the attendance register that was kept under the supervision of nursing staff.

Meanwhile Family Health Workers Association President Devika Kodituwakku said seven midwives were hospitalized after a clash between two groups of nurses and midwives.
